With the New Year comes a period of self-assessment that most people go through to better themselves. Some choose to create fitness goals to get in better shape. Others desire to amp up their productivity to increase their effectiveness.
Previously, people have had to rely solely on themselves to track their progress. Luckily, today we have many resources at our fingertips to help us achieve our goals for the New Year. Our mobile devices represent one of these resources. You carry, in your pocket, the tools for successful goal achieving.
Here are 5 apps I have found to help me reach my goals.
- MyFitnessPal (Fitness Goals)
MyFitnessPal is a great way to start your year off right. It’s a user-friendly method of tracking your progress and meeting your goals. This app makes sure that your goals are realistic and helps you reach said goals in a healthy way. There is a place where you can create custom goals, log nutrition, track workouts, read inspirational blogs and message your friends for encouragement. I personally have used this app and was even able to connect with a friend as a means of support while we were both trying to get fit and healthier. I found MyFitnessPal easy to use and even fun!
Find this app in the Apple App Store today. It’s also available on Google Play Store and the Windows App Store.
- Duolingo (Language Acquisition)
What better way to start the New Year out right than by learning that language you’ve always wanted to speak! Duolingo provides an amazing app to help you learn a second language. You are able to choose from Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Irish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and English. Duolingo gives you a pretest to see how much you already know. This is especially good if you began learning a language in high school and can remember some of the basics. Then you are able to start a program that Duolingo creates for you. The app notifies you when you haven’t been practicing as much as you should, which is helpful for forgetful people like me! All in all, Duolingo is a great app.
Besides the Apple App Store, Duolingo is also available on the Google Play Store and Windows App Store.
- Moment (Social Media Conservation)
The past few years have paved the way to a new addiction: Social Media. While some are able to put down the phone to be present in the moment, others are constantly checking Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine and email. The app called Moment is a perfect way to track your usage and set limits for yourself. You are able to set a certain amount of time you’d like to spend on your phone and the app with notify you during the day as to how much of that time you have used. Moment has a place where you can go to view your progress from the past and plan for new goals you want to set regarding your social media usage. Unfortunately, the Moment app is only available for iOS users.
- Credit Karma (Financial Fitness)
Credit Karma is an easy, free way to manage your credit score and improve your finances. Credit Karma offers tips and suggestions to raise your score, along with comments about changes to your score. This easy-to-use app is great for being aware of what your financial decisions are doing to your credit and how you can improve during the upcoming year.
