The NextGen MilSpouse Book Club is excited to announce that we’ll be reading and discussing Stories Around the Table: Laughter, Wisdom, and Strength in Military Life starting in November.

Stories Around the Table, released this month by independent publisher Elva Resa Publishing, features a collection of personal stories from more than 40 military family writers that will hit home with today’s military spouses. Whether you are a newbie spouse or preparing for separation from active service, be ready to laugh, cry and smile when reading this 272-page heartfelt compilation.

From poignant to practical, tragic to humorous, these candid conversations shed heartfelt insight on many aspects of military life. Some subjects, such as deployment, reunion, combat injury, post-traumatic stress, and frequent moves, specifically reflect the military lifestyle. Writers also explore topics common to both military and civilian families, including marriage, education, parenting, friendship, faith, finances, depression, infertility, and grief, and how military life influences the experience.”

It’s like Chicken Soup for the military spouse soul. But better …because these writers keep it real.

Stories-Around-the-Table-cover“These authors transparently shared wisdom from their lives, gained through tragedy, trial and error, and both everyday and extraordinary circumstances,” said Stars and Stripes columnist Terri Barnes. Besides contributing to the anthology, Barnes also managed the project and edited the book for Elva Resa.

One feel-good note about Stories Around the Table: Laughter, Wisdom, and Strength in Military Life, all of the book’s authors agreed to forgo a royalty, making it possible to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book to nonprofits that serve military families. As soon as we get word on that nonprofit beneficiary we will share it with you.

The NextGen MilSpouse Book Club is the first book club to discuss Stories Around the Table. Book club participants will share their reactions to these real-life stories, give feedback on the personal essays and be able to chat with the Stories Around the Table authors. Every Stories Around the Table contributor is invited to participate in the conversation on our NextGen MilSpouse Book Club Facebook page. That’s right, you’ll get to discuss the book with its authors. How cool is that?
