It’s no secret that military spouses have a hard time taking their careers with them, moving around every three years on average. The numbers tell the story: military spouses experience an unemployment rate of 25%, nearly 10 percentage points higher than peak civilian unemployment rates.
Even if you are eyeing a portable career, it’s often a source of frustration that you need to be able to complete certain education and training requirements before you even qualify to apply. Those things can take time, and if a PCS is always on the horizon, how are you supposed to get started?
These days, it seems like nearly everyone has spent at least some time working from home, so it makes sense that professional education should follow suit. Thankfully, opportunities exist that will give milspouses’ career aspirations a boost with online certification, training, and job search assistance in the high-demand fields of Allied Healthcare and IT.
MedCerts is pioneering the way students learn and employers hire. For the past 10 years, they’ve been creating a system to provide debt-free, specialized training for military spouses and connect them with employers looking for those very same skills. Over 30,000 individuals have trained and upskilled through MedCerts, giving them access to the talent pipelines MedCerts has built with its more than 1,000 partners. Even better, MedCerts programs are completely online, which means they are accessible no matter where you move, as well as during PCS moves–and most programs can be completed between 4 to 6 months!

Information Technology (IT)

With MedCerts’ Professional Development programs, you can give your resume an edge through training in customer service, or by getting smart on Microsoft Office tools.
Paying For Your Program
If you’re wondering how to pay for this kind of training, the news for milspouses gets even better. Most MedCerts programs, specifically those falling under their IT and Healthcare Administration, can be paid for with a MyCAA grant, made possible by the Department of Defense Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program.
With a MyCAA grant, qualifying spouses are eligible for up to $4,000 (with a cap of $2,00 per fiscal year). Additionally, MedCerts offers payment plans for its students and trainees.
What Are You Waiting For?
For military spouses who are eager to join the workforce, what could be better than self-paced learning from the convenience of wherever they happen to find themselves? If this sounds like you, MyCAA-eligible MedCerts programs might just be the training you need to make your goals a reality.
