This is a sponsored conversation by AAFMAA‘s new SpouseLink App. The opinions and text are all mine.
When SpouseLink asked us to check out their new SpouseLink App and share it with you (available for download via iTunes here), we couldn’t wait to put it though its paces. We know how much our military community relies on social media; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest have become the new social hangouts for today’s military spouse. But with over 1.25 billion users on Facebook alone (as of April 2015), it’s getting harder and harder to carve out a little corner of social media let alone practice OPSEC and PERSEC online. That’s where the SpouseLink App comes in.
WHAT THE WHAT?! OPSEC is operational security (think troop movements, homecoming day, geographical locations, etc.) and PERSEC is personal security (think car magnets broadcasting your status as a military family, posting about where you are on social media, etc.)
The SpouseLink App is the first social platform created just for military spouses, their friends and family to use–and it’s FREE!
What We Like About the SpouseLink App
Beautiful & Easy to Use
You could say that the SpouseLink App had us at hello. We’re so accustomed to seeing dated websites and resources in the military community, but the SpouseLink App was anything but dated. When you couple hip and cool style with ease of use, it’s a win for us.
Our only comment? Don’t forget our dude milspouses! They might be few, but they are no less important!
We thought it was pretty cool that we could select which branch we’re affiliated on our profile. Though branch affiliation is optional, it appears that, if you affiliate your profile with a branch of service, SpouseLink will suggest groups for you to join that align with your selection.
Significant Other Friendly
The SpouseLink App is open to significant others but doesn’t offer a marital status specifically designating someone as dating or engaged. Right now, you can choose between married, single, separated, widowed or undisclosed. Chalk that up to something we’d like to see added in the future.
Control Over What You Post
The SpouseLink App allows you to post status updates and photos as well as comment on your friends’ statuses and photos. You can tag everything you post with either career, lifestyle, money, parenting, transitions or well-being.
Control Over Your News Feed
We like the fact that you can choose what topics show up on your newsfeed. Don’t have kids? Uncheck the ‘Parenting’ topic and poof! No more parenting-tagged content.
Ability to Invite Friends Directly from Facebook
It’s pretty easy to invite all of your military spouse Facebook friends to the SpouseLink App. Talk about good migrations.
How is the SpouseLink App Different than Other Social Networks?
I know, you’re asking yourself, another social network? How’s the SpouseLink App different than what I’m already using? That was our first thought, too.
The SpouseLink App Is Specifically Made for Military Spouses
Where every other social network is open to literally every person in the world, the SpouseLink App is just for military spouses. Now, that doesn’t mean that non-military spouses can’t join, but ideally it will not appeal to anybody who isn’t a military spouse.
The SpouseLink App Organizes ALL of Your Military Spouse Social Groups and Resources in One Location
Admit it…you have so many Facebook Groups you can’t track them all much less find them when you want them. The SpouseLink App will simplify and streamline comms with your military spouse groups and friends all in one place.
More of What You Want, Less of What You Don’t
Does your newsfeed feel cluttered? Are you tired of sifting through fiftymillion useless posts and missing out on the important military community news you want and need? The SpouseLink App makes it easy to sort through your friends’ posts, resource links and articles thanks to handy-dandy sortable tags.
SpouseLink App: The Verdict
We love the look, ease of use and motivation behind the SpouseLink App. The app really has potential to be a useful social network just for military spouses. The only thing missing right now is YOU!
Go download the SpouseLink App from iTunes and invite your military spouse friends to join you!
